Started with “Each Kindness” by Jacqueline Woodson. My third graders said that the character who wore summer dresses in the thick of winter felt unloved, unappreciated. The other kids were mean. Even if they realized that they were being unkind, it was too late.
This made me think that we can switch our gears from thinking negatively about kindness to thinking more positively. What are we grateful for? What do we appreciate in our lives?
This jump-started our journey through our month of kindness. Every morning, students entered their thoughts into Google Classroom. And then, using Class Dojo, we picked a random student whose words of gratitude we shared out loud in our classroom, with an email with our parents, and with the world through Twitter.
