Esra Murray is a lifelong learner who believes an empowered teacher is a catalyst in developing empowered learners. Recognized as a Distinguished Teacher, her expertise and passion intersect at designing, implementing and evaluating innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Currently, Esra is in an elementary mathematics pilot analyzing pacing in the implementation of personalized learning. In her role, she is defining and assessing mastery, exploring time, structure and space utilization, developing an array of physical and digital teaching and learning resources to transform mathematics instruction. Previously, Esra provided strategic and practical insight into district-wide implementation of Digital Learning Environment for over 8,900 students and over 900 educators in her district. She identified opportunities to embed and promote technology tool use in the curriculum to ensure authentic, relevant, and meaningful learning experiences to students. Esra is also passionate about promoting collaboration among her peers. Recently, in partnership with EdSurge and funding from Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, she launched the first Greenwich Teacher Leadership Circle, with a vision to bring local educator community together to learn how they are defining and what they are doing within personalized learning. On her quest to bridge innovation and education using global and local tools, she has been integral in securing funding and developing a STEM curriculum with emphasis on local history of the Hudson River ecosystem. She has also integrated cross-cultural experiences in developing everyday STEM habits of mind in her classroom. She is a frequent presenter of her journey both locally and at international conferences. Her collaborative work has been highlighted in teacher | librarian and The International Dyslexia Association Perspectives peer-reviewed journals along with contributions to TechRepublic, International Baccalaureate Organization, and Level Up Village.
